Overview
Synchrony is seeking a skilled Web Engineer II to join our API Gateway Engineering team. In this position, you will work to design, automate, and scale secure API integrations across our enterprise-level architecture. This role offers an opportunity to play a vital part in streamlining Synchrony's digital financial transaction ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities
- Standardize and deploy API gateway tooling, configurations, and core policies across the organization.
- Structure and write high-quality REST APIs using OpenAPI guidelines, JSON, and YAML specifications.
- Strengthen infrastructure security through strict application of authentication and token validation procedures.
- Create automated pipelines for smooth gateway deployments utilizing DevOps practices.
- Offer clear architectural guidance and champion microservices best practices among various development teams.
- Monitor overall performance and trace application errors using logging systems like Splunk and New Relic.
Required Skills
- Solid foundations in API architecture, including REST, SOAP, and modern JSON patterns.
- Proficient with programming languages and frameworks including Java Spring, Node.js, and JavaScript.
- Practical understanding of secure systems integration via JWT, SAML, OAuth 2.0, and API key configurations.
- Hands-on knowledge of build automation and version control platforms like Jenkins and Bitbucket.
Eligibility
- Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience specializing in Apigee or similar enterprise API Gateway solutions.
Preferred Skills
- Prior exposure to modern API gateway technologies such as Apigee X or Apigee Edge.
- Working familiarity within an Agile or Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) delivery setup.
