Overview
This role is for a Linux Engineer within Point72's Technology team. The team focuses on advancing the firm's IT infrastructure and engineering capabilities, leveraging open-source, modern cloud architectures, and sophisticated Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a rapidly evolving technology landscape and support a global investment firm by enhancing its platforms and applications.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and troubleshooting Linux systems across production and development environments. This includes assisting with system provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management. Core duties involve monitoring system performance, availability, and capacity, as well as responding to incidents and outages. The role requires close collaboration with developers and quants to support research and trading workloads, automating operational tasks using scripting and configuration management tools, and assisting with patching, upgrades, and vulnerability remediation. Maintaining comprehensive documentation and operational runbooks is also expected, alongside participation in an on-call rotation.
Required Skills
Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related discipline. A minimum of five years of professional experience administering Ubuntu Linux systems, specifically with ZFS, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of Linux fundamentals, including processes, memory, CPU, filesystems, systemd, cron, logging, and package management (apt). Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash) is required, along with familiarity with SSH, DNS, and TCP/IP networking. Experience with monitoring and alerting tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, or Datadog is also necessary.
