Job Description

Overview

Point72's Technology group is seeking a Database Support Engineer to manage and maintain critical database platforms across various environments, including Development, QA, UAT, and Production. This role involves close collaboration with application teams, application support, and database engineers, operating within a Follow-the-Sun model to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of database services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive operational support for enterprise database platforms in both on-premise private cloud and public cloud environments.
  • Proactively monitor database health, capacity, performance, and availability, responding to alerts and performing timely issue diagnosis and remediation.
  • Execute routine maintenance tasks, including patching, upgrades, and housekeeping procedures.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot database-related incidents, contributing to root cause analysis efforts.
  • Collaborate effectively with application owners, application support teams, and other Database Engineers.
  • Offer expert guidance on database best practices and operational standards to ensure system integrity.
  • Engage in cross-team problem resolution and initiatives focused on continuous improvement.
  • Participate in the design, implementation, and testing of automation and self-service capabilities for database platforms.
  • Drive efforts for continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to reduce manual toil and enhance platform efficiency.
  • Contribute to a Follow-the-Sun operating model, including shift-based coverage and seamless handoffs across teams.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in database administration and infrastructure engineering.
  • Demonstrated strong experience delivering services across multiple database technologies, such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Sybase.
  • Robust knowledge of cloud-based database services, including AWS Aurora, RDS DB, EC2, EBS, and S3.
  • Hands-on expertise in scripting languages like PowerShell, Korn Shell, or Python.
  • Strong understanding of observability tooling and the principles of operational monitoring design.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues effectively under pressure.
  • Possess a strong ownership and accountability mindset.
